What Is Google Sheets Combo Chart?

Combo chart in Google Sheets, as the name suggests, is a combination chart type where we can combine two charts in a single chart. It is usually used to show and compare the data in a single chart. For example, consider the below table showing the four quarters of an organization along with the sales and profit.

Now, let’s use Google Sheets combo chart to create a combination chart of a line chart and a bar chart. To begin with, select the data and then click on Insert > Charts. Next, the Chart Editor toolkit appears on the right side of the screen. Then, select the Chart Type drop-down option and click on Combo chart. Now, we can see the combo chart in Google Sheets, as shown in the image below.

The steps are:

Step 1: To begin with, select the data and then, click on Insert > Charts.

Step 2: Now, the Chart Editor toolkit appears on the right side of the screen.

Step 3: Next, select the Chart Type drop-down option and click on Combo chart.

Furthermore, we can create, customize and set up the values, colors, font, etc., to suit users requirements.

Example #1 – Dynamic Consolidate With Links To Source Data

Consider the below table showing the sales and profit report at three centers A, B, and C in location 1.

Similarly, we have a table showing the sales and profit report at three centers A, B, and C in location 2 as shown in the below image.

Note that we also have a table showing the sales and profit report at three centers A, B, and C in location 3 as shown in the below image.

Now, let us learn how to create a combo chart in Google Sheets with the given example.

Solution

The steps are:

Step 1: To begin with, we first need to install the Consolidate Sheets add-on in google sheets.

Step 2: Next, we need to click on Extensions > Consolidate Sheets > Start.

Step 3: Now, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 1 of 3 pops up as shown in the below image.

Step 4: Then, select the 3 sheets, i.e., Location 1, Location 2 and Location 3 sheets and click on Next> option, highlighted in blue color.

Step 5: Now, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 2 of 3 window pops up.

Step 6: Next, select the option, Consolidate by Label and click on Next> option as shown in the below image.

Step 7: Now, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 3 of 3 window pops up.

Step 8: Here, we need to choose the desired location to create the consolidate table. In this example, let us use the sheet in the same workbook, named as Consolidate Sheet as shown in the below image.

Step 9: Next, click the Consolidate option.

Step 10: Then, we can see the pop up window, Consolidate Sheets showing that the consolidation is completed successfully.

Step 11: Next, we can see the consolidated table as shown in the below image.

Step 12: Now, select the data and click on Insert > Charts.

Step 13: Then, the Chart Editor toolkit appears on the right side of the screen.

Step 14: Next, select the Chart Type drop-down option. Click on Combo chart.

Finally, we can see the combo chart in Google Sheets, as shown in the image below.

Example #2 – Consolidate Data To Blank Worksheet

Now, in this example, let us learn how to consolidate data to a blank worksheet using a Google Sheets combo chart.

The steps are:

Step 1: To begin with, we need to install the Consolidate Sheets add-on in Google Sheets.

Step 2: Next, we need to click on Extensions > Consolidate Sheets > Start.

Step 3: Now, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 1 of 3 pops up as shown in the below image.

Step 4: Next, select the 3 sheets, i.e., Sales in A, Sales in B and Sales in C sheets and click on Next> option, highlighted in blue color.

Step 5: Then, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 2 of 3 window pops up.

Step 6: Now, select the option, Consolidate by Label and click on Next> option as shown in the below image.

Step 7: Next, the Consolidate Sheets window’s Step 3 of 3 window pops up.

Step 8: Here, we need to choose the desired location to create the consolidate table. In this example, let us use the sheet in the same workbook, named as Result.

Step 9: Then, click the Consolidate option, as shown in the below image.

Step 10: Now, we can see the pop up window, Consolidate Sheets showing that the consolidation is completed successfully.

Step 11: Next, we can see the consolidated table as shown in the below image.

Important Things To Note

1. Google sheets combo chart is a combination chart with 2 charts in a single chart.
2. Usually, we combine line and bar charts in combination charts in both Excel and google sheets.
3. Please note that we can also use other chart types in google charts such as bar area chart and pie chart.
